What is Group Counseling?

Some problematic personal issues are actually more responsive to being examined and worked on within a group setting. (Some common issues that are addressed in this way are addiction or grief issues). In a group counseling setting, usually about 6-10 individuals meet face-to-face with a trained group therapist, often to address a specific shared problem. A therapeutic group will consist of other people with problems just like yours, who know exactly what you are going through since they are also going through it themselves.

The benefit of group counseling is that it provides a safe environment to discuss your issues, and is very supportive in nature. It is uniquely beneficial in that it allows for the equal exchange of ideas about how best to cope with a particular problem. Group members provide useful feedback to each other, and can offer positive advice regarding the problems and issues being discussed.

The process of group counseling often provides an instant social support network. Group counseling sessions provide a safe environment in which members work to establish a level of trust that allows them to talk personally and honestly. Group members make a commitment to the group and are instructed that the content of the group sessions always remains confidential. We at NPS have extensive experience with group counseling, and we are trained to focus on a wide variety of topics. We will provide you with a safe and private setting in order to give you the very best care, and we will do everything in our power to provide you with the tools necessary to live your healthiest life.
